Bio
Morten Hansen grew up in Bath, Maine where at an early age he fell in love with the work
of Tony Montanaro and his Celebration Mime Ensemble.  This experience inspired him
to learn to juggle.

Hansen was lucky enough to meet the great German juggler
August Lauppe who, in his
career, had toured with such greats as The Harlem Globetrotters and Laurel and Hardy.
Lauppe informally coached Hansen’s juggling technique for two years.

Hansen earned a BA in the fine arts, with a concentration in juggling, from Simon’s Rock
College in Great Barrington, Massachusetts.  In his four years there he studied acting,
directing, dance, choreography, performance art, technical theater, and modernist
literature.  This work culminated in his senior thesis production, entitled
Parabola: a
Study of Objects in motion
.

After college Hansen became a founding member of the highly award winning juggling
trio
blink.  Hansen performed in that show full time for five years, touring nationally and
internationally.  In Falling Up Words Hansen continues the exploration begun with
Parabola and blink.

Hansen has won
four gold medals from the International Jugglers Association and twice
set the
world record for the most objects ever juggled between two people. (most
recently fifteen balls with Ben Jennings of London England in July of 2003.)

Hansen also has an extensive background in technical theater and has served as
technical director for the
Oddfellow Theater in Buckfield Maine for the last six years.
During that time he has also toured with
Avner the Eccentric and New Wave Vaudeville.

Morten Hansen currently makes his home on a small off-grid homestead in Troy, Maine
with his wife Michele and their two children: Josiah (
7) and Sophia (3).
